UPDATE: Last day to file is December 26, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday, April 9, 2013 - Consolidated Election Important Dates

Sep. 25, 2012: First day to circulate petitions for independent, new political parties and nonpartisan offices.

Dec. 17 - 26, 2012: Filing period for independent, new political parties and nonpartisan offices.

The first day candidates can circulate nomination papers, is Tuesday, September 25, 2012.  December 17, 2012 is the first day to file petitions in the office of the County Clerk.  December 26, 2012 is the last day to file petitions.  The office hours are from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday. 

The County Clerk’s office is open until 5:00 p.m. on December 26, 2012.

Write-In Candidates

To become a write-in candidate, you must file a "Declaration of Intent to be a Write-In" form with the County Clerk at least 61 days prior to an election. 

If an objection to a candidate's nominating papers or petitions for an office is sustained after the 61st day before the election, he or she can file a notarized declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for that office with the County Clerk no later than 7 days prior to the election. 

Write-in votes for candidates who file this form will be counted.

Pollwatchers

To be a  pollwatcher you must: 

  • be registered to vote in Illinois
  • have valid credentials from the Madison County Clerk’s Office
  • have separate credentials issued for each voting site selected to observe 
  • Pollwatchers are required to surrender their credentials at the polls and sign the Pollwatcher Register.
