SEPTEMBER 6, 2011 – First day to circulate petitions 

NOVEMBER 28, 2011- First day to file petitions in the office of the County Clerk 

DECEMBER 5, 2011 - Last day to file petitions in the office of the County Clerk

Petition packets for candidates that file with the County Clerk's office are now available for Established Political Parties for the March 20, 2012 General Primary Election:

Statement of Economic Interest

All Petitions filed by persons waiting in line at the office of the County Clerk as of 8:30 A.M. on the first day for filing, November 28, 2011, shall be considered as having been simultaneously filed.  Petitions, filed by mail, which are received in the office of the County Clerk in the first mail delivery or pickup on the first day of filing shall be considered as having been simultaneously filed as of 8:30 A.M.  All petitions received thereafter shall be considered as having been filed in the order of actual receipt.  Whenever two or more petitions are simultaneously filed for the same office, by candidates of the same party or independent candidates, the County Clerk shall break ties and determine the order of filing by means of a lottery.

The office hours are from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.  On Monday, December 5, 2011, the last day for filing petitions, the office will be open until 5:00 P.M.  Naturally, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the County Clerk’s Office.

PETITIONS RECEIVED PRIOR TO NOVEMBER 28, 2011 CANNOT BE ACCEPTED AND WILL BE RETURNED.

ALL COUNTY BOARD DISTRICTS WILL BE ELECTED IN 2012 BECAUSE OF REDISTRICTING

JUNE 25, 2012 - Last day to file petitions in the office of the County Clerk

Petition packets for candidates that file with the County Clerk's office are now available for the November 2, 2010 General Election.

Write-In Candidates

To become a write-in candidate, you must file a "Declaration of Intent to be a Write-In" form with the County Clerk at least 61 days prior to an election. 

If an objection to a candidate's nominating papers or petitions for an office is sustained after the 61st day before the election, he or she can file a notarized declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for that office with the County Clerk no later than 7 days prior to the election. 

Write-in votes for candidates who file this form will be counted.

Pollwatchers

To be a  pollwatcher you must: 

  • be registered to vote in Illinois
  • have valid credentials from the Madison County Clerk’s Office
  • have separate credentials issued for each voting site selected to observe 
  • Pollwatchers are required to surrender their credentials at the polls and sign the Pollwatcher Register.
